About Artistry - Craftsmanship - Integrity - Unpretentious Service
Creating beautiful custom framing is both an art and a craft. It takes sensitivity and familiarity with a wide variety of art styles to see how the lines and textures of a piece may be enhanced by a particular frame. It takes imagination and vision to select a mat that will play up the colors in a piece without overwhelming it. It takes creativity to suggest unusual framing solutions. It takes know-how to handle the tools and manual dexterity to cut, craft and assemble pieces. Avram Eisen is a master of all of these skills.
When Avram was a junior in college at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill that he took a drawing class and discovered his love and talent for art. He switched majors and graduated with a degree in art. During his time in Chapel Hill Avram also learned to crochet, a craft which brought together his love of color and texture and the skill of working with his hands. He put that craft to good use when, after graduation, he moved to New York and worked as a knitwear designer. He also garnered important studio experience in printmaking and silkcreening while in the Big Apple. But it wasn't until Avram became the manager of a framing department of a New York art supply store that he found his artistic niche.
Avram's framing adventures in Chicago started at a big-name company. He then struck out on his own by doing framing from his basement home studio. Avram and his wife, Lisa, are raising two children, and working from home allowed him to be a stay-home dad when the kids, now teens, were young. When Avram expanded his business into a studio loft, he started hosting art shows. In 2008, he moved to his current store-front gallery location. Combining a gallery with his framing business allows Avram to support and serve local artists, contribute to their work, and to surround himself with art he loves.
